Traceability is key to many production processes - it reveals who did what? with what? and when? - usually as part of which batch? Traceability is frequently required by regulation and sometimes by customer request - especially in pharmaceutical industries and increasingly in food and beverage. Traceability is increasingly being used to reduce risk in many other manufacturing sectors. Traceability can also be linked to HACCP - thus preventing a product from being subject to a damaging external recall.
